RESPONSES

In Lake St. Clair, pollution due to stormwater runoff remains unsolved and some parts of the lake still remain closed. This remains a problem as Lake St. Clair is seen as an important lake and if it is polluted to a great extent, intense consequences could occur.

LOCAL:

REGIONAL:

EPA is giving Michigan $100 million in order to combat the Flint Water Crisis. This will combat water pollution through means such as providing orthophosphate to restore protective coating in pipes and invest in disinfecting the water. As well, the EPA is distributing clean water around the city.

The Trump administration is revoking laws that give EPA control over regulating water pollution. This has been done since EPA’s regulation of tributaries since it “usurps” state authority. This will hurt response to water pollution since EPA will not be able to enforce water pollution laws if it has to surrender its sovereignty of tributaries.

NATIONAL:

INTERNATIONAL/ GLOBAL:

The UN is creating councils regarding water pollution to increase international cooperation on water pollution. This would assist in combating water pollution since nations can cooperate and combat water pollution in both developed and underdeveloped countries.
