IMPACT

Due to water pollution problems in areas such as Flint, New Jersey, and California, water pollution is seen as a problem in certain areas and some political candidates use promises of fixing these problems in their rallies. Such as Hillary Clinton and her “Improving water security” which states her policy recommendations on certain water problems.

Political Impact:

Social/ Economic Impact:

Water pollution creates economic problems by harming water-related industries such as the fishing industries. Also, purifying contaminated water for the local populace creates high water treatment costs. Socially, water pollution affects many regions of the United States, especially in Flint and parts of New Jersey. This creates unsafe conditions for the local populace.

Consequences of Water Pollution:

Water pollution creates economic problems by harming water-related industries such as the fishing industries. Also, purifying contaminated water for the local populace creates high water treatment costs. Socially, water pollution affects many regions of the United States, especially in Flint and parts of New Jersey. This creates unsafe conditions for the local populace.

There are many consequences of water pollution. Such as:

  • Reduction in population: According to the DIS (Department of Integrated Science) at the Federal College of Education, “Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day”. The majority of the population in developing countries such as Africa, China, and India are denied fresh water causing disease amongst the populations.

  • Loss in industries such as fishing and real estate: oil spills and waste within the ocean is responsible for decreased population of marine life. Also, with all of the waste in the ocean, marine life bioaccumulates many toxins, becoming hazardous for humans to eat. As far as real estate, waterfront properties lose value due to the appearance of waste.

  • Algae Growth: Eutrophication is the enrichment of nutrients in a body of water. This occurs when Nitrogen and phosphorus runoff into waterways. The added nutrients causes an algae bloom. The algae grows until it covers over the water completely. This causes the organisms within the water to suffocate and die. After the algae fully takes over the water, it dies off and gets decomposed by bacteria. The bacteria uses up all of the dissolved oxygen in the water and creates a dead zone.
